Tim Mohr is an award-winning translator of authors such as Alina Bronsky, Wolfgang Herrndorf, and Charlotte Roche. He has also collaborated on memoirs by musicians Gil Scott-Heron, Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses, and Paul Stanley of KISS. His own writing has appeared in the New York Times Book Review, New York Magazine,and Inked, among other publications, and he spent several years as a staff editor at Playboy magazine, where he edited Hunter S. Thompson, John Dean, and Harvey Pekar, among others. Prior to starting his writing career he earned his living as a club DJ in Berlin.

A few had even started to play with Nazi imagery—the ultimate taboo in a country explicitly founded on anti-Nazi ideology. Wow! Will someone please make a documentary from this. This is an amazing story of 2 generations of young kids taking on the East German system. Music is the spark that leads to the full on revolution that includes all parts of society. From the first generation being beaten up and imprisoned to the last generation being able to get visas to play Poland and West Germany the story is unbelievable. Where everyone had an alias and lived in a squat and had to keep a job...any job. It is raucous violent world and revolution is the key. Dying to hear the music and see the bands and hope the motivate their counterparts in Iran and North Korea to stand up and be heard.

This was a fun non-fiction book! It told the true story of punks in East Berlin during the Cold War and how they tried to take down the government from the inside. It shared insight into their political activism and the dangers they often faced. It was interesting to see it from the American side and how they lived and survived, and the idea of To Much Future kept popping up. I can't imagine having my life controlled to that extent and I enjoyed their arguments. I was after the wall came down and didn't live through that time frame so it was good to learn!

Very interesting book. I highly recommend if you like punk rock and history!

Would have been five stars if not for the intermittent "things are just as bad here in the good ol' U.S. of A, mannnnn" editorializing.

As someone with almost no prior knowledge of punk rock, I loved this book. And, it's laser focus and biographical stories of the folks who formed this movement leads me to believe it would be a fun read even for someone who knows a lot about the topic. It's a compelling story told with compassion, wit and depth. And let's face it: knowing about punk rock in Berlin makes you sound smart and cool at parties. Highly recommend!

Berk is a distinguished professor of psychology at Illinois State University, where she has taught child, adolescent, and lifespan development for more than three decades. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, and her master’s and doctoral degrees in child development and educational psychology from the University of Chicago. Berk has been a visiting scholar at Cornell University, UCLA, Stanford University, and the University of South Australia. She has published widely on effects of school environments on children’s development, the development of children’s private speech, and the role of make-believe play in development. Excellent. I think I'm going to have to buy this one after renting it. Told my program chair how much I enjoy this book she agreed, stating that she still references the book and she has only ever had one student complain about this one.

You can tell its used but it serves its purpose. Lots of written notes and post its through out but they didn't bother me... Needed for one semester class, no issues with it.

This is the best text I own, honestly. Out of all my text books this is the only one I want to keep forever and reference later. The material is so informative, it is fun to read, and it does not miss a single theory or study. This is an overall amazing textbook.

This book was required for the class providing a lot of information on the subject matter. It is a great reference book for other classes on the same subject. The book arrived quickly and in perfect condition.

Had to get this book for my child development class. I enjoyed the book, wish I could keep but it's a little too expensive for a college student like me. It was in very good condition.

Well, he is a lawyer, so no surprise that he liked the idea. My mother, who is not a lawyer and for whom I purchased this book, hated this concept because the she felt the penalties for a shareholder/beneficiary in the “corporation” not paying his or her way were rather draconian. I liked it though. You decide.

Then discuss, make a plan and THEN email it to your lawyer and all others concerned before you start paying the big bucks for the NECESSARY legalese!

There is much to be learned about structuring an LLC to govern the operation of and handing down ownership of a family owned vacation cabin/cottage and this book is good start. But one of the aspects I got tired of was the 'sales job' of introducing the topic. Then as the details began to unfold, I thought my eyes would roll back in my head with the fog of legalese of the last few chapters. It's probably just me because I haven't been able to keep up with my own attorney as far as understanding the topic and the process of implementing this for our cabin. The bottom line is that the book introduces the concept pretty well.

The leather binding and gilt-edged pages make this a beauty, but more than that are the superb traditional ghost and terror stories within. This is a book for discriminating readers only, yet the cost is within anyone's reach. Rather than vulgar stories filled with blood and hysterics, you get just the right touch of classic chill for your autumnal (and wintry) nights. There are 55(!) tales in all. A short sampling of titles includes Edith Wharton's excellent "Kerfol" (set in France, not England!); Saki's "The Open Window," with its humorous but chilling denouement; Marion Crawford's nocturnal "Screaming Skull"; and Stevenson's story of midnight dread, "The Body Snatchers," about an Edinburgh doctor who seeks corpses for laboratory instruction but is not too scrupulous about their provenance. So many great writers lie within: Poe ("William Wilson" and the forbidding "House of Usher"); Kafka, Henry James, Ambrose Bierce, the incomparable Algernon Blackwood, Polidori, W.W. Jacobs, Bram Stoker, Dickens, and M.R. James, just to name a few. If you are a connoisseur, you'll be familiar with some but, even so, they are all gathered here in one volume so that you needn't go searching for scattered remnants of the whole.This book is one of the three greatest volumes of its kind. The other two are Great Tales of Terror and the Supernatural (a classic and still in print and available new at Amazon), and Tales of Terror and the Supernatural, edited by Marvin Kaye, available here only through third-party sellers now. I must confess to opening the latter late one cold night, the house still and quiet and approaching the midnight hour, then turning to a story titled "Lazurus," reading the first two pages, and thinking, "No, I'm not ready for this one this late," then closing it with a small shudder before pulling the blankets tightly around me. That's just one reason Marvin Kaye's book is worth the effort to find.

The book arrived as scheduled and well protected by Amazon bubble wrap. I love the selection choice and overall look of the text but upon opening (carefully) I discovered the back cover had separated from the binding, leaving a space between the cover and end papers. I know this can be repaired rather easily but I feel that this is unacceptable in a NEW book.
