Lots of photos of older women who have had makeovers, but few tips or details for you. Some of the other reviews noted that there was mention of plastic surgery, but I loved the photos in the "peak inside" on Amazon so I gave it a try. I actually returned it because it provided no value for me in remaking myself, and was mostly just a picture book. I ordered some other books that a lot of actual "When you go shopping, look for this" and "Doing this gives that effect" - so I kept those books because they were what I was looking for. This book was NOT.

I am forever hopeful of finding a resource for aging as a baby boomer. I had hoped that this book would be a great resource but though the models were real women,the styles were gowns and designer wear. I would have liked to have seen more casual styles and day wear. The book appeared on kindle in a landscape format and there was no option to enlarge the type. I could barely read the text.This was the most disappointing book I have purchased on kindle.

Excellent volume. Models' contributions to life and family are featured. Larger print for the mature woman. Helpful hints for facial rejuvenation, dental concerns, vision concerns, health/exercise/diet concerns...and more! Printed on glossy, upscale paper, full color photographs throughout. Features women over age 50 with their total makeover (makeup, hair, clothing). I read this book over and over.

It didn't have enough detail.

Great make-overs and beautiful ladies in the book. The book, however, gave very little detail about what went into their make-overs. Very little substance or advice. Also the formatting for the Kindle is horizontal and difficult to read. With some changes, this could be a good book.

I am giving it a 5 star because I am one of the models in the book. I did not have an opportunity to meet any of the other models or hearabout their stories until I received an advance copy of the book. I wasn't sure if I would find the model's stories interesting enough to keepme reading once I had shown my friends and family my picture in the book. When I sat down to read the stories of these women whotold of their life experience, I could not stop reading. The women come from all walks of life, economic backgrounds, and varied opportunitiesfor careers and travel. Each one has a story, as well as pictures showing the change that can take place when an older woman has herhair cut professionally and uses makeup. One reviewer stated that she wished the women had worn more ordinary clothes for the pictures, and in hindsight, I agree. I am wearingthe dress I wore to my daughter's wedding and chose that because I never get an opportunity to wear my "wedding" dress. The articlesby professionals giving advice on diet, hearing loss, dental care, etc. are all sensible. The article by the plastic surgeon gives optionsother than a facelift if one wants to look a bit better and maybe younger. This book would make an excellent mother's day gift for a mother over 50 or friends who are celebrating their birthdays as older women. The price is right, the photography and presentation are beautiful, and it is an easy and inspiring read.

real, how many post menopausal women have figures like them?! If this writer has the solution to " why did my boobs become DD overnight" and " now that I'm over 50 I would have to eat nothing but lettuce to look like that now" she should tel us! But overall the book was an inspiration and I would love to know where they bought the fabulous clothes... If only they would look that good on me...

I agree with other reviewers about the lack of detailed information on how the makeovers were achieved. I did enjoy the stories and photos in the book, however.

I wish I had gotten the hardcopy version instead of the Kindle version. The kindle formatting makes it much harder to read when there are diagrams with callouts and photos with captions. The text may be discussing the different body shapes, bow designs, shoulders, etc. and it's impossible to keep flipping around in the Kindle to recall what was what. The diagrams... ugh! You just can't zoom in on the Kindle to see what that little blob of text says! The author talked about learning all the names of the kayak parts and mentioned "coaming". For the life of me I could not get the diagram clear enough to see what the heck the coaming was, and ended up looking up the word from Wikipedia. Not how a book should be.The information is good, lots of common sense, and good things to make sure you pay attention to when you test out a kayak. The info in the book would get 4 stars if it were better formatted for the kindle (and readable!)

After previewing several kayak books in the "handbook" category (those that cover the activity broadly and without specializing in any specific topic), I ultimately decided on Shelley Johnson's Complete Sea Kayaker's Handbook. I was hesitant to go with the title due to its corporate publisher (McGraw Hill imprint) figuring the smaller publishers with more specialization in outdoor activity publishing would offer better books or the more well known authors might have better selections. But the reviews kept leading me back to Johnson's rather inexpensive but very comprehensive Handbook.The most important aspect of this title is Shelley Johnson's writing style. I found most kayak books to read like the author was an outdoors' person trying to be a writer rather than an excellent writer laying out all the key concepts of the activity. That being said, Johnson has impressive credentials and a solid understanding and mastery of kayaking and covered all aspects in respectable detail compared to many of the other "handbooks" that were rather short.Three negatives come to mind and are minor flaws only. Pictures in the book (very good photography, I might add) almost all displayed Current Designs kayaks which seemed odd considering how many different kayakers were photographed. Made me thing there was some underwriting or sponsorship and annoyed me slightly for some odd reason. Number two is Johnson's use of "she" which is a personal pet peeve of mine rather than using a gender neutral "their" to describe an unknown third person. Finally, 10 pages on cooking with 7 of those pages being recipies was just weird. I understand the book should have a small section on cooking and camping while touring. But 10 pages for cooking seemed excessive.Trip planning, navigation, and weather were all sensational additions to my developing knowledge. While I have become well versed though hardly fully proficient in most strokes, the chapter on strokes was very well done with good pictures and illustrations. The sidebars bring up a lot of controversies and issues associated with the activity, gear, etc. This book was even better than I had expected it would be and is an incredible value for the price considering the comprehensive nature and better writing style than other similar titles.

This is a great book for the beginning kayaker. I have canoed and sailed for close to 40 years and just recently took up kayaking. After several lessons and going out on my own a few times I bought this book. It filled in a lot of the blanks and is a very balanced presentation of the subject matter.The kayaking instructor that I went to is definitely a knowledgeable individual but he is, as I have found many in the sport to be, very opinionated. Had I not read The Complete Sea Kayaker's Handbook I think my knowledge of the sport would have been limited to what I learned by trial and error on my own and the limited presentation I got from the instructor. The book is pretty neutral on subjects that are more personal preference like boat selection, skegs vs. rudders vs. neither, paddle selection, etc. There is good coverage of the safety aspects and equipment, beyond what was in the lessons I took.Overall the book is a really good supplement to lessons and paddling experience. I find myself going back and rereading sections of it after each time I go out paddling. I am sure that will change with experience but it is a great reference.

Not anywhere as scary as some other texts- which makes it easier for a neophyte. I used it with a sea kayaking class in the local community college which has a course offering. The instructors plan to use it for the class in the future. It also covers the same subjects as the other books.

Very well done encyclopedic coverage of all things related to sea kayaking. A great primer for those looking to get into, or expand their knowledge, of sea kayaking.

I am a new paddler and found this book to be very informative and entertaining. It is an easy read with a lot of good information. I bought the Kindle version and will probably get the paper version as well so that I can have it more readily at hand. A great buy!

Worth it just to have the scaled fish recipe - a New Orleans 7th ward specialty fondly remembered by a friend. Would recommend this to anyone looking to duplicate old "timey" recipes. A must for the apple bread pudding, oyster poulet, aspic recipes and, of course, the scaled fish. Great for not only the nostalgia producing recipes but also discovered a great new whole grain bread in the graham muffins. Well written recipes and a varied selection of recipes makes it a win win for anyone from New Orleans and beyond.

Not great quality. Cheap paper, flimsy. But a great cookbook. Deserves a better publisher.

Charming, historical cookbook. Simple, homey recipies I can't wait to try.

My 5-year-old is very into art and loves the Paint by Sticker series. He is able to do them on his own, and would finish a whole book in one sitting if we didn't make him sleep once in awhile! Great for fine motor development, and a perfect alternative to electronics when he needs a quiet activity. After completing the first four books (Paint By Sticker, PBS Masterpieces, PBS Kids, and PBS Kids Zoo Animals), he was so excited to hear that a new one was coming out.Unfortunately, the quality of the books seems to have really declined with the new releases. As a previous reviewer mentioned, the stickers in this book are not fully cut and tear easily when you try to remove them. Even when my son asked me for help on his first picture, I couldn't seem to get them out without lots of torn edges and missing corners. One of his favorite things to do is suddenly a source of crying and frustration. I hope the publisher addresses this issue quickly, and we can get back to enjoying Paint by Sticker as much as we did before.

Mamaw (that's "Grandma" for those of you not from Kentucky :D ) loves to buy our kids stickers, and asked me to search Amazon for some new stickers. I happened upon these books, and in true Mamaw fashion, she said to get them all! This particular book has been incredible for our bird-loving six year old-she loves to complete the "paintings", and loves to research the birds together while she works! I have also found that these paint-by-sticker books help our kids focus and stay quiet during our read-aloud times, and are also great for packing when we will be spending time in wait rooms at the dentist, pediatrician's office, etc. Both of our big kids have used these (ages six and five), and have let me help on several occasions...I was surprised at how much fun I had as well! Our only negative is that they don't have more titles in the lineup, as we have gone through them all already!

I know some people are complaining that the stickers do not fit precisely and leave some gaps, but I don't think that is really a problem. If you really take your time on each individual sticker, they fit really well. There are a few gaps, but I think that that actually adds to the homemade charm. They give the picture some dimension. I had a great time filling in this book, and just ordered two more Paint by Sticker books.

Very pleased with this sticker by number book. This book has enough to do on each picture to make it last longer then a day to do the book. If I start with A1 and go in order and search for the spot the sticker goes, then it helps to make it last longer too. It has 12 pictures to do and I tend to do 3 per night while winding down for bed. Some people tell me that it's an expensive hobby for just 4 nights of fun but I really enjoy them and when I'm in between books I miss doing them. I do hope one day they will get cheaper but until then I will pace myself!

My mom is mildly obsessed with these sticker books. I have bought her all of them at this point as a gift for various holidays or just because, and she loves them. The stickers on average are reasonably sized (not too big or too small), they stick well, and they are organized well. The pages are sturdy and the pictures are fun. It's a very relaxing activity, and I have 2 of the books myself. Mom has done all the adult ones and all the kids ones as well. They need to make more!

27 years old and totally addicted. I will be purchasing every one in existence!

Cool birds but some are a little too simple for my liking. I like a challenge. Still worth the ~$10 though. I've got the whole series. I enjoy them all!

I am enjoying this book and would give it five stars but some of the stickers do not come out correctly and I have had to cut them or they tear. Otherwise it is fun to do these. I got the children's book for my granddaughter and we work on them at the same time. She is 4 and loves her book!
