As a mom of 5, with two children in the age bracket for this book, I was very interested in reading and learning how I could better help my children with peer pressure. As I do with every book I recommend to my children, I wanted to read it first and understand what they were going to be learning. I remember very well, my own experiences, and despite telling my children about them, I know that sometimes a third party has more 'authority' then my "When I was your age..." stories.What I liked about this particular book is the author's use of stories. After all, stories engage the reader far more than a lecture, and these stories were real...and relatable. The questionairres are helpful to the reader to see where they currently stand on issues of peer pressure. Based on the "score" there is an explanation to help the reader understand what they are personally dealing with gentle suggestions to guide them forward.I also liked that the principles within this book apply to anyone of any age (myself included) but that they are worded in such a way, alongside entertaining albeit embarassing at times, stories that speak on a level the reader can relate to. Not speaking over their head or in long-winded lecture format, but simple to the point statements that are gentle, yet effective.I will definitely be sharing this with my older two children who are 12 and 13 as I think they both will find it helpful, and may even want to share with some of their friends as well. I will be buying the other books in this series as it will be a great opportunity for us, as a family, to read and discuss these concerns and how to work through them. With the help of these books, it will be easier to approach challenging subjects that would otherwise not be discussed.

While I was searching long and hard for a good peer pressure management volume, I found this. At first I was not quite sure whether this is with something that could give me a good idea on how to cope up with the peer pressure. But this book does it all.I guess I was expecting less, because it is recommended for the 12-16 age group. But still the content is really rich even an adult can take things which may be hard for parents to get across. The most significant thing I found in this volume is the conjunction with true stories from different personals with helpful tips to apply the similar situations in your life.Finally it's a great volume surprising how children exposed to peer pressure vs. true friends which can help improve their attitudes and dynamics!

My 4th grade son and I read through parts of this book together, and we were able to discuss a lot.

Just what I wanted

This is a great book to help teenagers deal with all the pressures of life and school at that age. It is written to help children take control of their environment, to not be victims, to stand up for themselves, and to feel confident about themselves. It does say ages 12-16, but I would recommend that parents read it first to see where if their child is ready. The lessons that are taught in this book are so relevant and so needed today. Every student will benefit from reading this book. I love that it teaches teenagers how to say "no" to bad situations, and I also love how it helps kids learn and understand the consequences of some of their actions. Dr. Katz does have a chapter on the internet and how to use it properly, or what can happen if you use it improperly, and I think this one might be the most important. With the invention of the internet, bullying, spreading lies and rumors, and many other situations are so much worse than they were when I was a teenager. Now those lies can be spread to hundreds of people in a matter of seconds, and they will always be out there. Yes, that internet chapter is very important. I think this book is greatly needed today; it is a great resource for parents and teachers alike. There are a couple of examples in this book that some parents may not be comfortable with their 12 or 13 year-olds reading. There are some sensitive topics discussed, but I do think they are really important for parents to discuss with their children. Children have questions once they get into junior high. How do I deal with peer pressure? How do I find true friends? How do I set boundaries? And how do I deal with gossip and rumors? We as parents may be able to answer one or two of these questions but not in a way children can relate to. This book breaks each question down for the children and gives them the tools to work through it all. Examples are given so children can relate to the question they are working on. Parents should read this before or with your children so you understand the book. I love books that teach children. This is one. It breaks things down into relatable and understandable parts. It gives them a way of working through each section. This is one I have my own children working through and they are doing much better at handling things at school. Dr. Orly Katz covers issues most parents don't know how to break down and explain to their children. It is one your house needs. I highly recommend it. I found no issues with this one. I gave this one 5 cheers out of 5 because it should be part of the parents handbook. ~Copy of book provided by author in exchange for a fair review~

This is a great ebook for children to read because it will help them to cope with a lot of peer pressures that they might experience in their younger years in and out of school. It is also a great ebook for parents to read so they can best help their children if they are having a peer pressure problem.This ebook will also help an older person because in a work environment they too can and do experience peer pressure very similar to what their children might experience.This ebook is amazing and I recommend it as a great read to anyone.

I have read a few of the mainstream books on design thinking. Without exception I've found them to portray a shallow rearrangement of common sense and common techniques as a revolution of sorts. This is the first book I've found that invites the reader to transform their basic concept of imagining, developing and launching a new product. It's ironic that the author states in the forward that when he was asked to create a book on design thinking, his first question was "Hasn't that already been done?" Thomas Lockwood has succeeded in doing for innovative thinkers what the authors of all the other books failed at: He provides a cogent thought-scape that allows products to exceed the baseless fairy tale beginnings in the imaginations of innovators, and to disrupt and transform their target markets, even blossoming in markets not yet imagined when the spark of their existence came to life in the minds of their creators.The book provides a living landscape for innovators. It's up to us to understand and respect the tenets set forth on the book, and leverage them in our attempts to make the world a better place. Because we're working with a living landscape, we should also dedicate ourselves to nurturing and enhancing the concepts presented, and to mentoring others in their use.

I liked the book but the fact it is a collection of articles by several authors is good and bad. It is good because allows the reader to get in touch with different points of view. And it is bad because articles vary in quality and relevance. all in all, i recommend it to all who want to better understand how design evolved and gained relevance in the business world.

This was written in 1997...was hoping for a newer version or more current up date of this business trend.

After reading many other books that touch on the design thinking concept; here is a book that provides a wealth of in depth information that examines design thinking from a number of perspectives. In my company we need to be both attune to our client's approach to design and integrating ourselves into their process while maintaining our own design disciplines internally. This book provides insights to these sorts of design challenges as well as more traditional ones such as building a design thinking process and the culture of design in a company. Great information and interesting to read as well. Very much enjoyed it.

I am an avid family history researcher. All 8 of my great-grandparents and 2 of my grandparents were Irish born. Therefore, all roads lead to Cork, Dublin and Belfast for me more or less. I gladly own just about every book written on the subject by Brian Mitchell, John Grenham, Kyle Betit and William Roulston. I highly recommend this new book and am glad to place it on the shelf next to my others. Every book has something new or the editor and publisher wouldn't bother wasting the paper. First, the map of the Poor Law Unions(PLUs) on page 80 is almost worth the cost by itself. This is a clear listing of the names of these towns that are important in searching civil registration and workhouse records. The layout of the book and the sidebars in particular will facilitate successful research. Starting with finding resources in the USA and then taking the place of origin once learned across the Atlantic we are introduced to the 4 major collections: Civil Registration of births deaths and marriages, Census records from 1901 and 1911, church records and land valuation and tax records from Griffith's Primary Valuation and Tithe Applotments. The book finishes off with other resources. One complaint is that scanned images from web pages were too grainy for my taste. I hope subsequent editions will rectify this.

This book is an invaluable guide for helping trace your Irish ancestors, it covers alot of resources, some you can find online, some free and some not.. but it helps open up avenues to your research. She also gives you alot history which helps keeps things in perspective for any genealogist. So let this book and the others from Family Tree be your first source.

Bought as gift for my new daughter-in-law who has recently gotten into genealogy and has Irish/British roots as does my son. She seems to very much enjoy the book and says she has received a lot of helpful information. Seems to be a great success. Item arrived fast and was just as described.

This looks like a great resource to help with Irish family history. Lots of things have conspired to make Irish family research so knowing how to muddle through the better resources will take away some of the expected tedium. The work that has already been done will make my work easier.

Haven't read much of this book yet. My paternal grandmother's family was said to be part Black Irish. There seems to be no definite idea of just who the Black Irish might have been. Keep reading, I guess.

I can’t say enough about this book. It exceeded my expectations and then some. I thought I had a good grasp on Irish research...boy was I wrong. This book gives me hope of breaking down a 10 year brick wall. This is a must have for any Irish researcher.
