I have used these short, pithy, fact filled reviews of various cities around the United States and on a much more limited basis around the world for many years with great pleasure. I often learn a great deal about a the various destinations, even when I have traveled there before.This book is a marvelous overview of many different European cities. I find it great fun to read through the entries as sort of an armchair traveler.Sometimes I threaten to follow a suggested itinerary exactly just to see if you can cram everything in -- but so far I haven't.Warning: The Times offers most of this information free on their website, at least for subscribers. It is always good to check to see if there are updates or comments by other subscribers about the ever changing world of travel.

These books are pure hybrids. A travel guide, but not. A cocktail table tome, but more. I have the Europe and the USA volumes. I never go anywhere now without checking this source first. I am actually disappointed if my destination is not covered! These entries take you to great places off the beaten path. Detailed for travel, but interesting for just sitting on your couch perusing. The pictures are wonderful. Sure, you can't take it on the plane, but each entry is only a couple of pages long; isn't that why God made copiers and scanners? If you travle or just want to, this book gets you ready and gets you there. I am not going to stop until I get the whole set! I keep it updated by checking the NYT Sunday Travel section. They go back and review some of these places again, and are always adding new spots too.

I bought this as a gift for my husband before we started planning a European trip. It's a beautiful book with excellent photos. We would flip through and dream about going to each place. Now that we've gone to Europe and come back, we can flip to the places we loved and reminisce or look at where to go next!

Book was given as a gift to someone moving to Europe for a 4 month internship. The book would serve beautifully as a coffee table book, with gorgeous pictures and easy information inside. May not be as convenient for traveling, as it is rather heavy. Kindle version may be better for someone hoping to use while in transit.

I got this for my stepdad as a Christmas present, and he loved it. Awesome guide, but obviously better for planning your trip than taking it along with you because it's heavy. However, it doesn't matter that it's heavy because it makes a beautiful coffee table book. Pages are a bit thin and tear easily, but overall worth getting.

I love this book! There is so much to look at and learn about. It is a great coffee table book and reference guide since I travel a lot.

Love the vintage book cover. Bought this for a friend as a gift. She loves to travel and books, so it’s the perfect gift. Will definitely get more from this collection.

I’ve been reading Jae for quite a while now, and what surprises me the most is that although I believe she writes good lesbian fiction, I only like two of her series. It always amazes me how an author can write in so many different ways; it all depends on what they’re writing about.I really enjoyed both books from Jae’s Portland Police Series. There are only minor issues I have with the series, things like giving Del and Kade more book time, and more sex scenes that type of thing.Overall, the series itself is really good if you like crime based series mixed with romance. Another reason I like this series is because for some reason, Jae develops her characters better here. They seem fleshed out and can easily stand alone; each character in this series is distinctive. In contrast, in her werewolf series the characters are just odd; I didn’t like the majority of them. Also, the same could be said about the characters in her Hollywood series. Those characters were superficial and just cold. I guess if those characters were cold and superficial she captured the true essence of Hollywood! One could say she succeeded!Del was hands down my favorite character in this book. She was down to earth, honest, sexy, smart, and even though she stumbled a bit in the beginning while first pursuing Kade, she is such a redeemable character. This is a character if real, I would be friends with.All I have are good things to say about this series, I hope that little short story Jae released is not all we’re going to hear from these characters, I loved this!

It's a lovely continuation of "Conflict of Interest." This one doesn't scream "Law & Order: SVU" like the first, but it contains three love stories (one is the relationship between Dawn & Aiden from the first book) and works out several deep issues that many readers may have experienced. And of course, there's a healthy dose of suspense :-).I love the overall message of the book - your genes and your circumstances do not determine what type of person you are; you have full control of yourself and the direction of your life....and I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

"Next of Kin" is a smart, multi-layered book! With the continued relationship of Adien and Dawn and the budding new romance between Kade and Del there is plenty of romance to go around. Throw in a suspenseful case that affects one of their own, and you have a solid foundation for an outstanding piece of literary work.However, despite all of the novels strong attributes, in my opinion there are some flaws; the realistic chain of events surrounding Adien and her newly found sister had me puzzled. I have always liked the fact that Adien became who she is due to her past, (being the product of rape). Yet, the chances of her meeting a sibling born in the same violent and heinous way, was simply too much to wrap my head around.As I said before, this book was successful due to the fact it was multi-layered; romance and mystery. However, the "mystery" part of the book fell short. It was my opinion the author spent too much time on the relationships between the leading ladies and not enough time on the mystery section itself. There was hardly any build up to a suspenseful climax. An equal part of each is needed to form a concrete plot.In all, I would recommend the book to anyone who has read, "Conflict of Interest," the first book in the series. "Next of Kin" is a good read, and one I plan on coming back to again.

This is the best lesbian fiction I have read in a long time, and I read many! My only recommendation is that one should read CONFLICT OF INTEREST first, as NEXT OF KIN is actually a sequel to it. This book refers back to the other adequately so that it is not confusing, if one has not other first, however. I decided to read CONFLICT OF INTEREST anyway, as I enjoyed the second book so much. I am reading it now and appreciating it as much as NEXT OF KIN. I will definitely be reading other novels by this author.

I'm not very good at writing individual reviews because I tend to accidentally give away spoilers and plot points so Ifigured I would write out a generic review instead and save myself the time and trouble. If I am putting this review on abook it means that I found it to be truly exceptional and I enjoyed the journey very much, so thank you to the Author forputting a great story down on the pages.

This is book two of a series. Still like the characters and their interactions. The banter and humor back and forth is fun to read. I enjoyed the introduction of the new young characters and look forward to seeing their story develop. This book seemed slower paced than the first and dragged on in a few spots.

This was a great sequel and I loved how the relationships developed. Not only the relationship of Aiden but also of Del. It was great to see how the wall that Kade had built up all these years, was demolished brick by brick. I loved all the main characters but Evan has a special place in my heart. The story is very well written and it captivates you from the beginning.

Normally romance isn't my choice of reading material, but after reading the first in this series I knew I had to keep going. This is a well done novel with deadly developed characters.

As far as it goes, GENTICALLY ENGINEERED FOODS is an excellent book. My only complaint is that the research to date on this topic is pathetic. Of course this is exactly what Ronnie Cummings says. For whatever reason, the Clinton administration and the current administration don't seem to be overly concerned about what is happening to our food supply. The amazing thing is that most GMOs hit the market in the past 10 years. If you weren't paying attention in the 1990s, you need to know that you probably were not alone. The bottom line is that the food you are eating today is not what we ate as recently as 15 years ago.We all heard about the Monarch butterflies and the bovine growth hormone, but most of us had no idea just how many organisms--plants and animals--had been altered and were now part of the food chain. Cummins book describes just what we missed and although he writes somewhat provocatively, much of what he has to say is being said by others. In fact, the Monsanto potato has been discussed in many books and articles. Fortunately, big businesses like McDonald's are beginning to pay attention.Since the government can't or won't act, bringing about a difference will be up to the public. You can vote with your food dollars. Although you may not be ready to go completely organic (you really should for your health's sake) you can at least avoid the worst kinds of foods. The bottom line is that we really don't know what GMOs will do to the human body. I for one am not ready to be an experimental subject and I certainly don't want children to become subjects either. Read this book and act.

This will stop industry executives from moving from an executive position in a corporation to a regulatory position in the very same industry in government which regulates the industry they were employed in and the same industry which they will go back to work in when their government appointment is over. Andrea Pirlo has been the playmaker for each of Italy’s big three clubs—Inter, Milan and Juventus. He has won the Champions League and the World Cup. A most interesting & thoughtful account by soccer's greatest midfield player.....An interesting read from one of the all-time great who plays like a chess champion and delivers free kicks better than anyone in football. I just wish he revealed a lot more of how he does it, and what he thinks of his contemporaries. - But I guess that will not happen until he retires. And until then we'll have to be satisfied with his the skill and art of his game! - Avanti, Andrea! E Forza Italia!

If Pirlo hadn't become a footballer, he would have become an artist or poet. In fact he is.I'm no fan of Italian football but had read a very short snippet of this book in a UK newspaper, where he refers to the 2005 Champions League Final defeat to Liverpool, a game which AC Milan had lead 3-0 at half time. I purchased the book on the strength of those few sentences and wasn't surprised to find the rest of the book was just as entertaining and enlightening. What is surprising is, Pirlo doesn't once (if I recall) provide descriptive about any of the hundreds of games he's played in as such, whether at national or international level. There's no "I passed the ball to Del Piero..." type of narrative anywhere....This is more a philosophical look at the game, his life, the lessons he's learned and anecdotes from behind the scenes. Which in my opinion makes for the perfect football autobiography. Pirlo is as good a writer as he is a footballer. And that's probably the highest accolade I can give this book.

Andrea Pirlo's account is refreshingly honest, real, full of heart, and draws you deep into the psyche of the ups and downs of one of the greatest legends of sports history. This book serves as an inspiration to anyone wanting to have a real insider's perspective into the world of football. This book is timeless, with lessons to teach to future generations. The narrative is at times humorous, at times heart-wrenching, but at all times gripping and engaging. I could not put this book down and came away a transformed person--something I did not expect. Andrea Pirlo is manifestly not simply a great player, but a great soul who communicates with you through this book as if he were in your own living room. A bit disappointing. Pirlo was/is a consumate midfielder. He hardly seems to move which makes defenders forget about him despite his being the biggest danger on the pitch because they're distracted from him by his more kinetic teammates. But he is always drifting, drifting, drifting into open space so that he can be given the ball. Pirlo in space with the ball is a nightmare to the opposition.I was hoping to get more insight into how this great player's brain thought about the game. How much of his play is thought? How much is feeling? Intution? Analysis? How would he use his average size to outplay bigger, stronger, faster players? How did he assess the situation? How did he decide what to do? What was his mindset when his side was desperate? When his side was in control? When the match was finely poised? Etc.But they is little to none of this in the book. Mostly it is about contract negotiations and his reasons for moving from one club to another. That has to be the most boring aspect of Pirlo's magnificent career. I'm sorry the book focused mostly on that.OTOH, there are a few good lines and anecdotes here and here. But frankly, the best writing is the preface written by one of Pirlo's managers. If the rest of the book were as good as the preface, I'd give it 5 stars and a glowing review.

When most players play, there is a sense of urgency and tension in their game. With Pirlo however, there is calmness personified.I'd like to believe it's not because he lacks the drive or passion, but because the route to the goal is well-mapped in his skull. And with his book as we'll, one is unable to see the direction of the narrative, but can enjoy the ride nevertheless. We leave the visions to Pirlo.

Right at the start of the book, I was all in. The author's use of the English language was fresh, elegant, and enjoyable as far as biography's go. I really felt like Andrea was giving us a real glimpse into his head. After finishing, I feel like I really know him as a person and not just an amazing #21. The book consistently kept my attention and even offered a more comedic element than I was expecting. I really enjoyed this book and definitely recommend to all soccer fans.

A while back, I heard Rocky Hudson on The "Soccer" Show saying he wished Pirlo would smile more while he was playing. I think Charlie Stilitano was cohosting that day and said Pirlo has a great sense of humor (much to my surprise). After reading some of the reviews, they were echoing what Charlie said. You won't have to get too far into the book to see that Charlie and the reviews are correct. Considering this book was translated from Italian to English, it still works out. Andrea isn't afraid to give his opinions. Whether you agree with him or not, he gives you a lot to think about. He was overshadowed for much of his career until he went to Juventus but those of us who root for the Azzurri (and I guess if you like AC Milan) knew how good he was for a long time. He didn't marry a pop "superstar", play for a team or country that overhyped him, have others carry him to great results, release his own cologne, pretend he had the biggest contract in soccer or pretend he was going to buy an MLS team like some other midfielders that can't carry his jock. He's just been that good for a long time. His book is that good, too. Magisterial!

This book is a stroll, a pleasurable stroll. The pages turn just like Pirlo's passes. His character is revealed. Every fan of modern football ought to get his hands on this book. A great read that makes you feel all the more affectionate towards Pirlo.
