This volume of The Ancient Magus' Bride continues the series' high quality. Elias finds himself a bit perturbed; Chise is starting to make friends, a situation that he finds discomforting. She does what amounts to a girls' day out with Alice, the alchemist Renfred's apprentice. She learns Alice's story, which is an unsettling but hopeful one. Then, around Christmas, Chise and Elias encounter Stella, a girl visiting the town who is trying to find her brother, who somehow got lost when they were playing. It gets stranger when her parents tell her she's an only child and never had a brother. What follows is a fine tale about the potentially high cost of saying nasty things to your relatives. Certain supernatural entities just might take you too literally. We also get to learn more about Hazel, the centaur delivery person, who's been a cameo figure up to now, but proves most engaging. This volume comes with a bonus booklet with a nice little story about Chise and Elias having a talk about things that scare them. This is a fine volume of what has proven to be an excellent series.
It's been a very long time since I have been so into a manga I literally count the days to the release of new chapters. This series is stunning, both for it's delightful artistry, but also for it's storytelling. The world is immersive, expansive, and feels limitless. The characters are captivating, compelling, and each chapter just leaves you wanting more. Hand's down one of the most thorough world's I've had the pleasure to get sucked into, the lore is just so wonderful and deeply integrated into the storytelling process it's a true gem and work of art. If you haven't given this series a try I urge you to do so, the anime is also wonderful and follows the manga to a T. Don't miss out on this on this one, you wont regret it!
This is another great addition to the series. There are some interesting stories and we learn a bit more about the fairy world as well as finding out about Alice's backstory. That part's actually a little frustrating, because while it means well, it goes for the classic "drugs 'r bad, m'kay" speech that is just not very effective, and perpetuates a lot of the misconceptions that are counterproductive to the goal of keeping people away from harmful substances. I could go on, but I don't wanna get up on a soapbox here. The drug angle is a bit cliche, but this installment in the series is still pretty good.
I'm in love with this series...another reviewer called this a manga cross between studio ghibli and harry potter. That was dead on. Got this today and its already been read, Along with the manga came a cute little booklet which included a bonus story of chise and Elias. I think Elias is starting to be able to identify certain new emotions while chise is expanding her world and making new friends.Have already pre-order vol. 7 for kindle app. :)
This story right here oh my lord!!!!!!!!! I was in love with this story before tumblr had even two post about it. I was here for this baby before the anime came out. As a long time fan and it just being such a great story I had to buy it and have it in my book collectionThe story is amazing and I love the characters to death. The writing is great the story is great everything is great.
I just recently discovered The Ancient Magus’ Bride, when I stumbled upon the animated series. It is refreshing, somber, unafraid to deal with topics of gravity and impact such as death, living a full and whole life, dealing with loss and loneliness. And it’s fantastical in its Japanese style of critters and creatures both light and dark. I will recommend this series to all who loves fantasy, spirits, demons and folklore. It will enrich your lives.
Living in a modern age, in a Western country but internally Japanese observing both a magical world as well as a British one.
I love the story plot. And i love things that make me forget the outside world. And think about fantasy and magic. I cannot keep this down. Love it.
