Incredibly easy? I think they mean, incredibly frustrating to understand because they don't explain anything adequately. I think they mean to write as little as possible so it SEEMS easy. I happened to lose my copy on an airplane, got a different EKG book, and LOVED it astronomically better. I hate to write bad reviews, but its just one opinion.

I haven’t actually read the book. But how dirty it is is enough for me to get it one star. Better to buy a new book than a ‘used’ one because it is more than a minor cosmetic issue.

As an ICU nurse, I deal with EKGs all day long, so that wasn't the problem. The problem was finding an easy, concise and accurate way to describe axis deviations, 12 leads and other more difficult concepts. This book is very easy to understand and gives great examples. It really helped me pass my CCRN.

It is a useful resource book to have. If you are not a quick learner this might not be enough though

Love this book. Bullet point information. Easy to navigate though. Great tips for differentiating rhythms. Goes over each rhythm, causes and treatment. Contains a table of the meds listing their purpose. Also contains algorithms for ACLS and for bradycardia. Great resource, highly recommend.

These books really helped me through nursing school. They break it down into easy to remember terms. The pictures and illustrations make me laugh and make learning fun. As a Cardiology nurse, I still carry this book with me and reference it!

I bought and used this book when I was in Nursing school and was glad I bought it. I had a hard time understanding EKG's and this really helped. It uses simple terms and photos and the small book is easy to carry around.

Tele nurse here. This is my favorite go-to pocket reference for tricky rhythms. The layout makes sense and it's very easy to find any rhythm you're looking for. Recommend as a quick reference, for sure!

The Emerald Mile is nominally about the fastest run ever successfully completed down the Colorado River / Grand Canyon - 36 hours and some change, but in reality, it's so much more. I was expecting a short, light read - a little good fun. Instead what I got was a truly epic tale, not just about the run, but about the entire history of the river, from 1540 to the present. The book feels like an interesting cross between the writings of Marc Reisner (Cadillac Desert), and John Krakauer (In to Thin Air). It's a bit of a brick, and there were a few parts where the author waxed poetic for awhile, but it was all in all exceptionally well written.Like Krakauer, Fedarko describes the action and surroundings in a way that makes you feel like you are in the boat, feeling the water, and seeing the amazing natural terrain. And like Reisner, Fedarko infuses the story with fabulous back stories of all the major players, so that you really feel the full force of the personalities which drive the two stories, which in the end were one.The protagonist in this book is the late and heavy snowpack of 1983, and the great melt that followed. Not only did it set the stage for the record run, but it caught the Bureau of Reclamation totally flat footed, threatening the Glen Canyon dam. They had spent 20 years filling Lake Powell, only to see a volume of water that could have filled half the lake in just one year. The damage it caused to the Glen Canyon Dam was unexpected and unprecedented. But the benefit to the river runners was also equally unprecedented. And for that you will need to read this book.One of the most interesting and amusing parts of the book is at the end- an interview with the author. Guaranteed to surprise you. And the pics at the end are fabulous, as are the fun tidbits in the bibliography. It's one reason the book is not quite as long as it initially appeared to be.

This is so much more than the story of the Emerald Mile's speed run atop Grand Canyon floodwaters. It's about the crew at Glen Canyon Dam trying to mitigate damage and keep the waters under control. It's about the people who were affected by the high flows, both boatmen and passengers. It's about three men who did the impossible, just to prove it could be done.I found this utterly fascinating, and enjoyed comparing it with similar Grand Canyon history books. It's interesting how everyone has a slightly different view of things, and the characters in the Big Ditch. For example, Georgie White is either a heroine or an outlaw, depending on who is telling the story at the time, and sometimes both. However, she'll always be remembered for her comment after wrecking at Crystal Rapid with her unsinkable boat during the flood. The behemoth came apart and scattered equipment and passengers seven ways to Sunday. Georgie was found, shaken but alive, and when Scott Thybony asked her what happened, her reply was "I told 'em to hang on. But they just don't make passengers the way they used to."They don't make Grand Canyon adventures the way they used to, either. With the National Parks Service banning everything they can, there won't be many more of these incredible tales to share around the campfires.I especially liked the story about the evolution of the McKenzie river driftboat into the Grand Canyon dory that runs the whitewater with elegance and grace, and the fragility of a soap bubble.Great for the armchair adventurer, or for the folks who are working the river.

I'm in charge of river ops for a dam system in the Bureau of Reclamation. When a friend's father handed me this book, I expected to hate it but I also wanted to understand some of what went into the operations I could review from 1983. This turned out to be a beautiful, balanced, thoughtful book. There's no right or wrong answer. There aren't any faceless demons. Fedarko treats both sides of the engineering/environment divide with compassion and draws such strong character portraits that you find yourself rooting for both.

I have read "a few" books on the Grand Canyon over the decades, and this one is at the very top of the list. It's hard to tell you how much I enjoyed every word. Don't know if I am biased because I love rowing wooden boats through The Canyon, but I would hope my appreciation for amazing writing talent trumps that. The enjoyment I have experienced from this extremely well crafted work of art is off the charts! Wow!We as a family often read books aloud to each other. When we were doing this with "Emerald Mile", we found that we had to pause often and just absorb and relish in the incredible magic of the words that had just transpired. Descriptions of "floating mandolins" in tune with "the harmonics of the river" and on and on....just pure delight to visualize! I love the description of the feeling of the connection of a wooden boat with water....things that an author could only know from years of being with and dreaming about the boats.You don't have to be a river person to enjoy this work, as the words flow just as beautifully as a river itself. Wow, where to start. Let me first say that I was waiting for this sequel like a kid at Christmas. I even pre-ordered it so I would get it as soon as it was available and then stayed up late checking my kindle until it appeared and at the risk of being exhausted at work, I stayed up and read front to back all night long. Well, the happiness I felt at 2am was long gone by the time it was 5am and I'd finished reading this book. It was nothing like its predecessor "Bared to You" which was a wonderful read with strong, mature characters who were interesting and pushed you to the point of not wanting to put the book down.I don't know who the people were who showed up in this book. Eva a sassy, strong young woman of 24 turned into a needy, whiny, weakling who phoned in her robotic performance. As for Gideon, he was an alpha male who commanded attention with a cool, dark veneer and intelligence made even more enticing by his secret past and love for Eva. But, for this book, he too phoned in his robotic performance and became a two note of sex and violence. I was looking forward to these characters fitting the original title of the book "Deeper in You" because I thought that's exactly the direction this book would take the reader but it didn't even come close. This leads me to think Ms. Day herself knew this book wasn't going anywhere and therefore changed the title to "Reflected in You" because that's exactly what large parts of this novel were, a reflection back to the most filler parts of "Bared to You." It seems this book was written under the assumption people would read it without having read the first due to all the over-telling of places, events, and secondary characters. And yes I understand the reflection part is supposed to be Eva reflected in Gideon but I hardly find that to be true given she was an open book and he was a closed one.I want to say if you decide to take on a subject such as Child Sexual Abuse or any form of abuse it should be treated in a manner that is respectful and intelligent for those out there who have really suffered from abuse. It's not something to be taken lightly and research is required before putting information out there, yes even in a fictional book. This is the problem I had with "50 Shades of Gray" along with the general bad writing and plot, but I digress. I get that Eva and Gideon are victims who have been pre-disposed due to their abuse to use sex like an addict uses drugs - when they're happy, sad, angry, bored, lonely, etc. to feel good about themselves and their relationship. But, Gideon was made to appear like he was using Eva as his sex toy and Eva was just happy he would show up to use her. The scene in the limo was the worst ever - not romantic in the least. None of the repetitive sex scenes were what I would classify as "HOT." There was so much hair fisting in every sex scene I seriously wondered if these people would show up bald in book 3. And, while I'm on repetitive, Hello- raised/arched eyebrow is the new biting lip. Geez everyone's response to anything was always a raised or arched eyebrow - I guess this means no one in the book had botox.Getting back to plot fails - I read this book twice because I really thought I was tired and it wasn't as bad as I initially thought, but it was. There was so much potential here from "Bared to You" like Eva facing her own abuser and using her Krav Maga skills to kick his a** maybe even kill him in self-defense then Gideon would have to deal with a woman who took control of her own problem while being submissive in the bedroom - that would be something I'd like to see him work with. And, that would be a true reflection of him since I think he probably killed his abuser.There are many other plot fails, but the biggest is to bring in a non-descript character to run down the Cliff Notes of what happened to Nathan and for anyone who's watched one episode of" Law & Order" knows that was a complete fail and just plain lazy writing. If you didn't want to get into the Nathan thing why even put it in the story? It did nothing except make Eva look like a desperate women and Gideon a thug - not the refine "urbane" New Yorkers they've been painted as. Not to mention the whole "event" and most of the book was predictable from chapter 2.I'm going to be completely honest and say I feel like this book was dumb downed to match in my opinion the "50 Shades" series. And if that's true then this book was written for the money and not for the art evident in I paid $3.82 for "Bared to You" and this book is $9.99. Sad being picked up by a publisher killed this series. I would not recommend.

Audible Review: This is the same narrator from books 1 and 2. Overall, a good narrator. I don't exactly enjoy her Gideon voice, but I am very picky about that and it's probably a me issue.Story Review: While I enjoy getting as much of this couple as I can get, this is my least favorite book so far.Gideon and Ava spend the whole book pretending not to be a couple. You know why because of the ending in book 2. Personal preference has me wanting to read a couple together, not separate.As one threat comes to a slow close, a new one pops up with a reporter trying to make Gideon look nasty because of her own agenda. These past women in his life are annoying and tiresome. The worst is Corrine.My biggest pet peeve about this book was Gideon is still constantly catering to Corrine. I don't doubt his love for Ava and I do not think he wants Corrine, but he needs to cut her loose. It's disrespectful to keep going to her when all she wants to do is come between Ava and him. I don't care that he feels guilty. He shouldn't. Corrine broke it off with him and she made her bed.Ava still has Brett trying to get back with her and yet I'm actually not bothered that much by it. For one, Gideon deserves to feel what that's like since he won't cut Corrine loose and two, Ava is not encouraging Brett. In fact, she has been pretty insistent to him that she is in love with Gideon and he doesn't have a chance. Should she cut ties to a friendship? Yes, but why should she if Gideon won't show her the same respect. I am usually much harder on the female in books but in this instance, I agree with her.I enjoyed the ending but I hate that when a good thing happens a bad thing follows closely behind. That can get a bit tiresome, as well. I am, however, still looking forward to book 4.

I started this series years ago and really enjoyed books 1 and 2. I do remember this book being delayed and after awhile the series became another book on my TBR. So I decided to finally get back to this series and read books 1 and 2 again, which I still love. This book, nope, nada, no!I was annoyed 95% of this book. Eva lost her appeal, Gideon was acting shady, and the secondary characters were so annoying.Eva - I don’t understand why she lets everyone step all over her. She had no backbone and is not a strong lead anymore. She lost her appeal and her “zing” in this book. The whole Brett storyline was disappointing.Gideon - while I understand why he acted the way he did, he should of communicated better with Eva. His loyalty to Corrine was just annoying and unnecessary, especially at the end.Secondary characters- Eva’s mother was always annoying but somewhat tolerable in the first two books, but for some reason, she was downright insane and dramatic for no reason. I wished Eva would’ve put her mother in her place and kept her there instead of backing off. The whole not telling her father what happened was a low blow, but to then justify why her mother kept it from him was just stupid. He’s your father!!! He should have known. If anything he probably could’ve help with her mother’s actions. Clary, was just an idiot throughout the book. He was a horrible BFF, especially his actions in the second book. He is a hot mess who has no right to give any opinion on anyone’s personal life. He annoyed me and was so ughh...If I can describe this book with one word it would be childish. Everyone in this book was a child with adult jobs. No one communicated, no one had common sense, no one respected each other, and the whole back and forth was getting old. I’m disappointed in this book and will not read/buy books 4&5. The sparks between Eva and Gideon was gone. They played this back and forth game with Brett and Corrine that the appeal of their love for one another was lost. I can’t understand why or how they can put the feelings of their ex’s before each other. Between Gideon running to Corrine, who by the way disrespected Eva on multiple occasions and then had the nerve to kiss Gideon in front of her, was a WTF moment for me. After all of that, Gideon still would run to Corrine every time she cries. Why? Over some unfounded guilt that happen years ago. Then there’s Eva and Gideon. She knows he wants her back. You would think she would decline and break all ties with him out of respect for all parties involved, but nope! She instead goes on a “date” with him, goes to an event with him and make plans to see him on a weekend - huh! I can’t with this book or the characters. This will be the first time I stopped reading a series without completion. Usually, I try to stick it out to get to the epilogue, but I don’t think it’s worth it. This series had such high hopes and ugh... failure for me. So disappointing. Okay, rant over.

Did everything expected of it. Covered all of the major tourists sights. It was an enjoyable easy read. Chock full of good solid facts.

Very informative and interesting well written lots of foot notes and hints . Map could be a little more inclusive of more towns within the departments

it's lightweight and provides some basic info but not much detail and the lack of pictures and not many maps make it hard to relate to the content.

This book is hastily written and doesn't seem to have been properly edited. It's one thing to have typos, it's another to have inconsistent travel information in different parts of the book. For instance, the majority of a suggested one week itinerary is spent in a national park that is revealed in chapter 6 to have been closed to visitors since 2013. The city maps are also basically useless: they don't show the neighborhoods defined in the chapters and have too few streets labeled to use them for directions.

First Frommer's guide I have used - it was very easy to navigate, up to date, and interesting historical facts and background integrated with the sights text. Recommendations for places to stay and eat were spot on.

Very limited general information, at times outdated.

This really is a snapshot book. I LOVE Rick Steves' travel books but this one really barely touched on Lisbon. There wasn't even a good metro map. I ended up coming back to buy the Eyewitness Travel Book. He did have snapshot in the title so to be fair, that's pretty much all the book is. Lisbon is not a snapshot city so if you're a first time visitor, buy a more comprehensive book. There's too much history and too many sites for just a skim.

Don't travel without Rick. Any time we go abroad I think I will just use my cell phone to get information, but we inevitable end up mostly using a Rick Steve's book when seeing the sights. Everyone in the group was so impressed with how much I knew about every stop. 15 minutes with Rick on the subway and all of the sudden you are a tour guide!

Worked well for my one day in Lisbon, at least for catching the main sights. I did the three neighborhoods walk and Belem in one day, which was no problem. I didn't find it necessary to take breaks and soak in a lot of the street scenes, so what Rick recommended be done in 3 days, I accomplished in 1. Either way, it was a great guide and handy to have on my phone when I was without internet connection. One recommendation would be for Rick to include a metro map. The metro was fantastic and only cost 6 euro for a 24 hour pass!

Just what I was look for in a tour book for our 4 days in Lisbon. I have used several of his books and also he phone app walking tours in Paris, Amsterdam and London. Good insight on the history of Lisbon and enjoyed is walking tours of the three neighborhoods. We also enjoyed the trip to Sintra but would recommend doing the Pena Palace first, walk the grounds down to the lakes, then take the short walk to the castle. Good info on transportation and areas to eat. Very pleasantly surprised for out first trip to Lisbon. Thanks Steves and company.

The Snapshot book is just the relevant pages pulled out of the larger Portugal guide, but it was just what I wanted and is compact, so...it wins. Of course I wouldn't mind at all if RS would do one of his pocket guides for Lisbon, as he has done for Barcelona - even better format, more colorful, etc.

The Snapshot Lisbon is a good ... it is a great idea to pull the meaty city bits out of the Rick Steves book on Portugal. However, the snapshot book should be less expensive ... especially the Kindle version. In fact, I think Rick should offer a free Kindle version of any book at one buys ... that would be a friendly traveler thing to do.Also, I would be nice to have a tram map included.

We have bought other guide books, but always return to Rick Steves clear, concise and well laid out books. The print size is perfect for "aging" eyes. Rick makes it easy to navigate seamlessly around new cities and towns. We solved the great metro system in Porto as well through his complete Portugal guidebook which we bought after altering our itinerary. Well worth it!!! After his recommendation for vinho verde, we are enjoying this wine here in Porto.

A great resource for our trip to Lisbon. It was small enough to fit into my purse and contained all the necessary maps. I appreciated the updated information so we were dealing with current schedules and rates of events and locations such as using the tram versus taxi. His recommendation for a private tour was spot on! I would definitely recommend this book.

Glad to have my copy in hand. A must-read for people who want to know the foundations of academic research on organizational communication.

Overall, I think this new version of the handbook is very well thought out. I do have a few problems with some of the directions the content took. As I am an Org Comm social scientist, I'm amazed at how much of the book is now specifically geared towards interpretive and critical understandings of organizational communication. The most recent analysis of the research in Org Comm still demonstrated that quantitative research accounted for more than 50% of the content published within the field. However, this book is clearly not representative of the actual state of Org Comm today. Personally, I think the editor's skewed the book (probably unconsciously) in a single direction that isn't truly representative of the field today.

Who is this book for? Scholars who have been in this field for years, I think. Yet, this book is used in my graduate introductory to org comm course and it could not be a more painful experience. The field as a whole is pretty painful, actually, but I'll restrict my comments to this book. As a phd student in rhetoric and professional communication, I have been continuously baffled by the inchoate jargon each chapter's author brings to their subject matter. Sometimes the language is so dense that I spot typos the editors didn't catch after four editions (a petulant example that I have on hand is that Schumate and Contractor confuse the words “mode” and “node” because they refused to simply say “actor” or “agent,” which are clearly interdisciplinary synonyms, thus forcing the typo “Affiliation networks are two-mode networks” when they meant two-node, p. 452). In a chapter on structuration theory, the author even admits that one method is so confusing that he can't even describe it. Excellent—a useful handbook, indeed. Now, I know the counterarguments to this critique: learn the field, understand the discourse, and you'll "get it"—translation, I'm just ignorant and nubile. Understood. But I am neither ignorant nor nubile in my education about the tangential fields that inform org comm, such as linguistics, rhetoric, business, philosophy, psychology, and more; I am primed to graft org comm theory onto my bases of knowledge. The authors, though, make no attempt to translate their terminology to educated but content-ignorant readers: e.g., early chapters use terms that are elucidated by later chapters, but the later chapters are elucidated by terms in the earlier chapters, and so on. My argument is that this book is only meant for people who already know the field, but then, why would you need this book if you already know the field?Finally, the amount of scholastic incest is incredible: most chapters are gloriously self-indulgent and I now play a game of counting up how many self-citations each author fits into a single bibliography. Some authors even cite earlier editions of their work in this handbook... Again, like the counterarguments academics have prepared for not understanding discourse-specific jargon, I know why authors cite themselves from time to time. But, why 22 times in a single chapter, chapter after chapter? My point is that the gratuity of the self-citations reflects on the "constitutive construction" of this field's identity as unapologetically insular and abstruse.This field isn't rocket science. It's communication theory. We critique scientists and engineers for not making their work accessible, yet do the same thing ourselves. The irony of a field dedicated to communication not being able to communicate their ideas should not be lost on the authors, and, as I'm sure there will be a needless 5th edition of this book, I hope that the authors can do the necessary work of translating their ideas to a broader audience of academics who want to use their concepts in practice.
