A great book. Putting aside the more controversial aspects of this book, I the Judeo-Christian history was the best part. I thought the review in the NY Times summed it up well.

In fairness, I’m a Christian, so it’s unlikely that I’d love this book. I was interested in seeing if he had any insight into Jesus the historical person (archaeology, etc). As the book turned toward a theme of discrediting Jesus as the Son of God, I wasn’t particularly pleased. However, there are probably a lot of non-Christians who have a point of view similar to the author’s, so it would prove instructive to continue reading. My main issue is that I just didn’t find his arguments convincing. How to explain the radical change in behavior of the apostles from chickens to courageous preachers of the gospel? How to explain the conversion of Saul of Tarsus into Paul, a committed devotee of Jesus? How to explain why none of these people recanted under threat of death and torture. Surely the stories of a apostle recanting would have been maintained somewhere?! Without undercutting the motivations of these people to believe in a risen Jesus reinterpreting the other events that occurred feels incomplete and unconvincing.

Reza Aslan book is a readable defense of the Schweitzerian theory of Jesus (so called because it was popularized by Albert Schweitzer in his "Quest for the Historical Jesus"). Seeing ancient Palestine as a hot bed of revolutionary activity, he finds the most plausible explanation of the historical Jesus as one which sees Jesus as revolutionary who was ultimately crucified for his anti-roman views. The position is fairly common in Biblical Studies and a form of this argument is held by people like Bart Ehrman, N.T. Wright, John Meier, E.P. Sanders and many others. Aslan's version of it plays up the political aspect of it more than some others, but all agree that Jesus is best understood as an apocalyptic prophet. Aslan makes the argument in fairly traditional ways, beginning with the idea that crucifixion is a Roman punishment for treason and building the argument on the twin pillars of Jesus as a original follower of John the Baptist (who is also understood as an apocalyptic preacher) and the cleansing of the temple (understood as a prophetic act signifying the coming apocalypse). These two events are considered firmly historically established and when connected with the crucifixion draws a picture of Jesus as an apocalyptic prophet. I would again note that there is actually nothing particularly new is what Aslan does here. His emphasis on the political ramifications of apocalypticism is a important gloss, but the crux of the argument is found in many other scholars' work. Additionally, there is nothing particularly "Muslim" about Aslan's reading, even if he is himself a muslim. Many Christian and non-Christian scholars read the texts the same way.The real problem with Aslan's work (and this holds true I believe for other scholars who are in the Schweitzerian tradition), is a lack of clear method. Aslan challenges this or that saying or text as being late creations and thus not relevant to the historical Jesus, but methodologically he is all over the map. Occasionally he uses multiple attestation to support the authenticity of passage, but he is certainly willing to use a singly attested passage if it suits his image of Jesus. Occasionally likewise he will use dissimilarity, but this method he also will abandon as necessary. Essentially, the problem in dealing with the sayings tradition is that you can't know the answer before you work with it. But those in the Schweitzerian tradition have discovered the answer through those three "Certain facts" and then they evaluate the sayings tradition in light of that. This makes for a haphazard and problematic method which cannot be replicated. But of course, by not starting with the sayings tradition first and applying a method to it (as say Dominic Crossan does) you ultimately sort the sayings tradition subjectively based on what fits your image and what does not. This is what Aslan ends up with, but again he is not alone among Biblical Scholars in this regard. The reader might ask if I have such strong criticisms of Aslan, why I rated it so highly. The answer lies in its readability and its presentation of the history starting around 300 years before Christ. I used this book in my "Life and Teachings of Jesus" class at a public university, and students were impressed with Aslan's accessibility and information. While I think in the end the book has methodological issues which is rampant among all scholars in the Schweitzerian tradition, much of its history is informative and engaging. Additionally, I think the emphasis on the political ramifications of Jesus is something that is important to consider and often gets lost in those with a more "cynic-like" Jesus. For those reasons I think this book should be read though I would suggest it be read in dialog with John Dominic Crossan's "Jesus: A Revolutionary Biography" for a different and more methodologically sound approach to the Historical Jesus.

I've read the book (unlike so many of the "reviewers" who gave it one star) and here are some points.1) This is a popularization of recent (late 20th-early 21st century) reputable scholarship regarding Jesus. There's nothing in this book that would surprise a person (like myself) who has read pretty much all of the accessible scholarship on Jesus published in the last 30 or so years. Just going through the (extensive!) notes and bibliography at the end indicates to me that Aslan has done his homework.2) Aslan takes the position that Jesus was a zealot for God and God's Temple, but (and this is repeated several times in the book) he was not a member of the Zealot Party, which wouldn't arise until over 30 years after Jesus' death. In this, Jesus was just one of a number of people who arose in the period from the reign of Herod the Great to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 CE and his fate was like those others. In short, Jesus was killed for his zealotry, which was perceived as a threat to the Roman authorities and particularly to the Jewish sycophants who ran the Temple (and profited nicely from it). This is not a position shared by many members of the religious scholarship fraternity, who have attempted to carve out a position for Jesus where he's a religious figure who did not delve at all into politics. It's an interesting argument that I can't do justice in a few short sentences. If you're interested, you'll have to read the book yourself and decide if Aslan makes his case.3) Aslan doesn't stop with the death of Jesus, and, as someone writing history, not hagiography, he carefully notes that he can't pass judgment on whether Jesus' resurrection occurred, because it is not a historical event but an event of faith. He then pushes on to a discussion of the earliest Christians and, in particular, the conflict between James the Just, described as the brother of Jesus and the head of the Jerusalem Christians, and Paul of Tarsus, the evangelizer of the Gentile world. This part is definitely worth the read, because it brings out the fact that the early Christians were not "in one accord" but were in fact fractiously divided over what Jesus taught and what it all meant.4) My only serious factual gripe about the book comes from the first paragraph of Chapter 15, where Aslan describes James the Just as follows: "He himself owned nothing, not even the clothes he wore--simple garments made of linen, not wool." The problem is that historically linen was an elite fabric, not the fabric of the poor. (For example, Luke 16:19 points out that the rich man in Jesus' parable of the rich man and Lazarus wore purple and fine linen and all four gospels are agreed that Jesus was buried in linen.) Making linen from flax took a lot of preparation as compared to wool, which can be spun practically straight from the sheep. But getting back to James the Just: The sources, by putting James in linen, were more likely comparing James to the Temple High Priest, who would have worn linen for the sacrifices.5) I'm knocking off one star for not being footnoted. Granted, there is an extensive set of chapter-based endnotes (and I strongly suggest reading them, they're as engaging as the book itself), but the lack of footnotes is a serious flaw. Even if the book is intended for a popular audience, it should have been footnoted.6) As for the assertion that the book is fatally flawed because it's influenced by Aslan's Muslim background: That is flatly false. Let me state again that there is nothing in this book that can't be read in the scholarship done by *Christians* published over the past several decades. Moreover, if Aslan was pushing Islam, you'd think that he'd make a point of saying, "Well, Islam considers Jesus a prophet," but he doesn't. Not at all. The reviews which make the assertion that the book is terrible, horrible and awful because of "OOOOH EVIL ISLAM!!!!" appear to have been influenced by Fox News' promotion of a screed by John Dickerson. As a former journalist for Phoenix New Times, Dickerson should know better, but perhaps that's why Dickerson is no longer a journalist but now pastors a church in Prescott, AZ and churning out inaccurate and inflammatory junk for the fearful faithful.

#533,552 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

My eleven year old is a voracious reader and absolutely loved this story of would-be heroic hamster trying to save the day. Clean and fun and even a plot twist we didn't see coming. Well done!

Thoroughly enjoying trading this book to my 8 year old. Educational and enjoyable.

Nerve shredding yet so so interesting. number one favorite book of all time! Get this book no matter what! Love it!

Great book loved it. I couldn't stop reading it. So many cliff hangers. I loved the ending. Allen shear was also a great character in the story.

My 11 years old daughter liked it very much

I couldn't put it down, absolutely recommend!

Despite the cute cover and the whimsical title, this book isn’t simply a frivolous romp through time—it has a surprising amount of heart and even heartbreak. The story tells of Al, who receives a letter from his father four years after his father’s death. The letter reveals that Al can essentially bring his father back to life by traveling back in time and preventing an accident that happened all the way back when his father was twelve years old. Of course, at first Al is skeptical, but he soon discovers that it just might be true. Unfortunately, changing the past isn’t quite as simple as it seems, and Al finds himself questioning whether or not changing the past could destroy his future. What Fed My Addiction:Life in all its bittersweet glory. There’s a lot going on in Al’s life (pre-time travel), and not all of it is rosy. Obviously, he’s been dealing with his father’s death, but he’s also adjusting to life with a new stepfather and stepsister, who he has trouble connecting with. Al’s stepfather wants to bond over sports, which Al is distinctly uninterested in. Al’s stepsister, Carly, just plain seems to dislike him most of the time and resents his presence in her life. On top of that, Al is dealing with some minor bullying at his new school, which makes adjusting even more difficult. Still, there are plenty of good relationships and positive aspects of Al’s life to balance out those rougher spots—Al’s Grandpa Byron and his mom are both very close to him and obviously want what’s best for him. I especially loved his grandpa, which brings me to my next point …Grandpa Byron.By far, my favorite character in the book is Grandpa Byron. Al’s grandpa is a fun and somewhat eccentric man. He’s Indian and has taught Al quite a bit about Indian traditions, religion and culture. But what makes Byron stand out most is the fact that he has employed ancient Indian memory methods and can remember just about everything—from trivia to the details of his life events. He even wrote a book about those memory methods. When Grandpa Byron suspects that Al might be dabbling in some dangerous territory, he encourages Al to read his book and teaches him that sometimes remembering the past can be the key to living in the present. The relationship between Al and Grandpa Byron is heartwarming, and I loved every minute that they were on the page together.Details about time travel.Even though this is a middle grade book, Welford doesn’t just leave out the scientific explanations of time travel or its ramifications. Since Al himself is only twelve, some of the details are hazy to him (and probably to some of the book’s readers as well), but he does gain a basic understanding of the theory of relativity—and kids reading this book will too! And then, of course, there are all of the quandaries that are created with time travel. I especially enjoyed the final quarter of the book when Al had to deal with the results of his time travels. What Left Me Hungry for More:Expectations. The only thing that kept me from completely adoring every moment of this story is the fact that I had a wrong impression going in, and this falsely set my expectations. I was expecting a light, funny read about a kid and a hamster and their madcap adventures through time. What I got was much more poignant than that—a book that seriously (but still middle grade appropriately) addresses the death of a loved one and difficult family relationships. The book also explored the realities of time travel and many cultural aspects of India that I wasn’t expecting. None of these things are bad. In fact, they’re quite good. It’s just that it took me a little while to adjust to the style of the book and realize that this wasn’t going to be a goofy, hilarious book. (Especially since the first few paragraphs actually were very humorous, which further cemented my expectations.) I also expected more of the book to take place in the past.Geordie references.I found myself a little confused with the many references to the Geordie accent and setting. I think part of the reason for this was because the first time Geordie was mentioned was in reference to Grandpa Byron, and I thought it was something Indian—or at least somehow foreign since Al himself didn’t seem to have it. Then when it was mentioned again, I was confused. When Al went back to 1985, the Geordie accent was even stronger and people said things like “me mam,” which I’d always associated with more Scottish or Irish accents, so I found myself confused again about where the book was set. Anyway, I wish that when they published the book in America, they would have added just a line or two to really make it obvious that the Geordie accent was the norm in northeastern England but that it had faded a bit over time. I figured it out, but I doubt my 12-year-old would. (I armed her with that information ahead of time, though.)This book is a time traveling adventure, but it’s a lot more than meets the eye. It's a story about growing up and remembering the important moments in life. I give this one 4/5 stars.***Disclosure: I received this book from the publisher for free. All opinions are my own.***

My daughter insisted that I read this book, and I’m glad that I took her advice. Time Travelling with a Hamster is a wonderful and quirky story about a boy whose father invented a time machine, and then died.At twelve years old, Al (short for Albert) is sent on a unbelievable and almost impossible adventure back through time in an attempt to prevent his father’s death. The story is funny, heart-felt, and completely original. An excellent read that was interesting from start to finish, with colourful characters and a fantastic plot. The concept of time travel is fascinating, and also terrifying. Any change made in the past could drastically alter the future, but if one could prevent the death of a loved one, would the consequences be worth it? I really liked the way that time travel was approached in this book, and that the travelling apparatus was made up with an old laptop and a tin tub! The calculations that Al’s dad devised to make time travel possible were complicated, but the theory was well explained and enlightening. I thought the science aspects, including the concept of mind palaces for memory retention, were treated appropriately for the intended age group, and made for very interesting reading.Grandpa Byron was the best character; with his mix of traditional Indian and western clothing, his moped, intelligence, impeccable memory and odd head bob, I couldn’t help but love this wonderfully eccentric character! Of course, Al is pretty awesome too. He was being bullied at school, and intimidated by his horrible step-sister, yet he was strong, innovative and brave. He had to be courageous and loyal to follow his dead father’s wishes when they seemed so crazy and difficult, but his love and trust for his dad was stronger than any fears he may have had. The close relationship that Byron and Al shared was enviable and emphasised the importance of family bonds.I now also desperately want a cute little hamster that I can call Alan Shearer the Second!Time Travelling with a Hamster is most suitable for upper primary to lower high school students. It’s a great book for kids interested in science and humorous adventure. We also have Ross Welford’s next book, What Not to do if you Turn Invisible, which I hope will be every bit as good as Time Travelling with a Hamster.

The Very Worst Missionary: A Memoir or Whatever, by Jamie Wright

Review

“Jamie is the only Christian writer I know who doesn’t filter her thoughts and words through an ‘appropriateness meter,’ so her memoir is original, hilarious, and believable. Jamie shows that a woman can be full of contradictions, full of fire, and full of faith—all at same time. If you find yourself losing your religion, read this brilliant book before you bail. It’s possible to be thinking, honest, inclusive, relevant, compelling, compassionate and Christian—Jamie’s proof.” –Glennon Doyle, author of the #1 NYT Bestseller Love Warrior; founder of Together Rising   “This book doesn’t suck—at all. In fact, it’s one of the smartest, funniest, and truest books on faith I’ve ever read. The Very Worst Missionary will draw you in and keep you thinking. It will remind you that, even when you think you’re at your worst, you’re not alone.” –Rachel Held Evans, New York Times bestselling author of A Year of Biblical Womanhood and Searching for Sunday   "This book might make you clutch your pearls, or laugh out loud, or angry. It might break your heart. Maybe all of the above. But at least you won't remain unmoved by Jamie's profound, wise and funny-as-hell story. Jamie's love for the church is ferocious and refining, and we desperately need to read and heed this book." –Sarah Bessey, author of Jesus Feminist and Out of Sorts: Making Peace with an Evolving Faith  "Wright, founder of the Jamie the Very Worst Missionary blog, exposes her disenchantment with missionary work in this irreverent, fast-paced memoir."-Publishers Weekly “Think of The Very Worst Missionary as the literary lovechild of Mother Theresa and Sarah Silverman—a crass-and-light-filled narrative that will have you laughing one minute and looking in the mirror the next. We need this book in the very worst way."  –Matthew Paul Turner, author of Churched and When God Made You   "If you’ve lived and worked abroad, I predict you will nod your head in recognition as Jamie takes on the sacred cows of Christian missions with honesty, humor, and not a religious platitude in sight. Her transparency and courage is exactly what we need." –Tara Livesay, director of Heartline Ministries, Haiti    "Jamie had me howling with laughter and cringing with recognition at her earnest and yet misguided endeavor to save the world. Equal parts memoir and scathing but self-deprecating critique, Very Worst Missionary shows how even our best intentions can go awry, and how we can find our way again." –Kristen Howerton, author of Rage Against the Minivan   “Jamie Wright will have you doubled over in laughter one minute, wiping tears the next. Rip-roaringly funny, brutally honest, and so very endearing…an absolute joy to read from first page to last.” –Nish Weiseth, author of Speak: How Your Story Can Change the World    “We’ve traveled with Jamie into red-light districts in Asia, where we’ve seen how she’s been able to use her voice to advocate for the most vulnerable. In The Very Worst Missionary, she hosts a conversation that globally minded people of faith absolutely need.” –Matt and Laura Parker, founders of The Exodus Road   "Gritty, funny, and thoughtful…all the things faith should be but rarely is. I love Jamie's story, her voice, and the way she looks at the world. After you read this, I'm confident you will, too."  –Jeff Goins, author of The Art of Work   "Jamie writes with eloquence, humility, and snark (no doubt a spiritual gifting). Everyone should read this brave book." –Emily Worrall, co-creator of Barbie Savior    “Never before have I seen a fellow Christian write with such courage, authenticity, and balance. You will come away feeling that your hurts and frustrations have been validated, and motivated to love bigger." –Benjamin L. Corey, author of Unafraid: Moving Beyond Fear-Based Faith    “Jamie brings the wit of Joan Rivers, the pen of Mary Carr, and the spirit of a prophet. This is one of those rare religious books that makes you feel okay with who you are, while inspiring you to want to be better." –Caleb Wilde, author of Confessions of a Funeral Director   “Jamie gives us permission to admit just how screwed up we really are, and accept how much God loves us anyway. One of the best, most refreshing books I’ve read in a very long time. I cannot recommend it highly enough.” –Zack Hunt, writer, blogger, preacher

This was a tough read. Ex-missionary Jamie Wright recounts her five-year experience as an evangelical missionary in Costa Rica to lay bare the nebulous language, lack of accountability, and harm missionaries can wreak upon native cultures - especially if they're unprepared. However, The Very Worst Missionary is not a point-by-point takedown of the modern missions movement - as the byline states, it's a memoir - and Wright makes it very clear throughout the book that she's only speaking from her personal experience and the experiences of those who have confided in her. (If you're interested in more material like this, I strongly recommended the podcast Failed Missionary - of which Wright is a co-host). The first half of the book documents Wright's rollercoaster testimony (that is amazing in and of itself) before it culminates in her and her husband's decision to move to Costa Rica to become missionaries. The Very Worst Missionary should be a wake-up call to the church. Wright freely admits she was not prepared or equipped to move abroad in order to engage in cross-cultural ministry, and that's part of the larger problem Wright is trying to reveal. Throughout the course of the book, Wright gives examples of wasted resources, hypocritical operations, and the utter lack of any real impact.Obviously, Wright is tackling some very sacred cows of American evangelicism, and she points a critical finger at an industry that insulates itself from harsh scrutiny and honest evaluation through the use of vague language like "loving on people," "just showing up," "making disciples," and "hearing from God."Wright isn't arguing for the dissolution of evangelical missions - though she definitely thinks they're in urgent need of reform. She's an advocate for smarter missions. From her perspective, if you're a Christian and passionate about the international community, then move somewhere as an expat, get a real job, and invest in the lives of your new neighbors. Don't plant a church if there's already a local church to partner with. And, for the love of God, don't let "short-term missions" destroy local economies by offering free goods and services that steal jobs from locals. As other reviewers have noted, the use of strong profanity in this book will turn off a lot of people (and, unfortunately, probably the people who need to hear this message the most). I've shared this book with some of my missionary friends, and they agree with a lot of what Wright has to say and acknowledge that a lot of work needs to be done within missions organizations. I'm not a prude, but I'm looking forward to a book that can tackle this problem from a scholarly and data-driven perspective without having to drop so many f-bombs.

The message is worth considering and evaluating, however for those of us who struggle with not letting any unwholesome talk come from our mouths, this book will do you no favors. I’m truly not against well-placed profanity to make a strong point, but I felt she used swear words almost ridiculously to where I couldn’t take her seriously anymore-like when my teenager is just trying to shock me. It came off as immature. It’s too bad because this is a good conversation to have, but I can’t recommend this book to most people. And the very people that I’m guessing the author wants to get this message to are the ones who won’t read it, so it becomes more of a preaching to the choir book rather than one that will start real reform. I hope I’m wrong.

Jamie Wright, the self-described Very Worst Missionary, is the very best human being for asking all the right questions about the Christian missionary endeavor as we know it today. How carefully do we select our participants? How effective is their work? How do we even measure that effectiveness? Are short-term mission projects more harmful than helpful? Her family's experience on the mission field in Costa Rica helped her gain a unique perspective from which to begin asking these extremely hard but undeniably important questions. But that's not even the best thing about this book. While there may be other authors who are tackling these issues in print, including academics and missiologists, Jamie adds the priceless commodities of genuine compassion, complete transparency, hilarious wit, and spectacular levels of profanity. She writes with the humor and timing (& vocabulary) of a seasoned stand-up comic, and includes several laugh-out-loud moments in her surprisingly touching and encouraging life story (not LOL; genuine bursts of audible and uncontrollable mirth).I devoured this title, closed the book, and in the same motion handed it to a friend to read. My friend is a young woman who is traveling to Kenya this summer for a short-term mission project. This is her second trip to this location with this agency, and I helped her edit her "support letter" last week. I'm a short-term mission field veteran myself and I literally cannot wait for her to read it so we can have a conversation about the many intriguing points Jamie makes in this fantastic and incredibly important book.

EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS BOOK! It is the most real and honest and authentic telling of a story ever. It cuts straight to the heart and speaks to the raw humanity in us all. No matter what walk of life you come from, you can glean wisdom from it and find hope in it. Wisdom to help you navigate your faith in a broken church culture. Hope in knowing you are not alone in the brokenness that is life. Jamie challenges deeply rooted, yet unfounded beliefs that have become standard theology among those that call themselves evangical Christians. Her words compel you to take an honest look at the things you believe regarding church, missions, and what it means to be a follower of Jesus. She let’s us see that it’s ok to ask questions and it’s ok to not have an answer. For those of you worried about some swear words, that’s just silly given the truth and wisdom that seep from the pages of this book.

These Harry Potter books by Jody Revenson which always come with a bunch of cool extras likes mini posters, stickers, cards, maps and so on which are always fun and full of info sadly this one fell short. Her other books are always very big and worth the price tag. This one is a smaller version which is why I gave it 4 stars. I feel like this book just needs some more work. First of all its way to short compared to her other Harry Potter books and the book itself looks not as well made as her others she's done. I feel like this one got rushed and it shows. It does have some character cards, maps, mini posters and stickers like her other books but it's only 47 pages long and you think well, that isn't that bad but the book is small so that is like half a normal book page of hers so that is like 23 pages of info which is why I'm disappointed. Also, there is hardly any info in this book mostly pictures. I feel this book should be priced around $13.99 and not $19 for it but I still like it i'm just used to more info and bigger books by Jody Revenson about Harry Potter. It does have the HP universe and Fantastic Beasts in this book. I'll add pictures to show you some of what the book has to offer. I will put a green pen beside the book so you can see how small/big it is.

yes, YOU!!! What are you doing? Thinking twice about buying this book? Are you crazy! Go get it right now!

This book reminds me of a book I read when I was a child, the jolly postman. I love the pages that had letters to unfold and magazines and articles and invitations to take out and read and put back in envelopes. This is like that! With cold out articles from the daily prophet and posts and maps, there is a lot of cool extras that come out of the book rather than just flipping through and reading the pages! So much fun for any potter fan!

Of course, anything Harry Potter is great in our house. We read all the books periodically, and we even have the illustrated versions. This book has inspired this household to start reading the series again.

Got this for a friend after purchasing one myself. Loved loved loved. Definitely a great addition to my collection of HP stuff. It has a lot of little scrapbook items like the DA list, and the wanted poster of Sirius. You can take them out to frame or leave them in. It’s also got information tidbits on the actors and series. Wish I could give it more stars!

Couldn’t be better! Lots of information on the movie, behind the scenes and keepsakes. Our 11 year old loves the book and kept referencing it with each movie we watched.

I’ve bought all these books and love them

Beautiful book with beautiful pictures! Arrived on time and just as described.

Well written book. Very specific about what's going on in Honduras. Traveled to Honduras using this book as reference. Visited the Mayan ruins, thermal waters, waterfalls and Roatan for some snorkeling and scuba diving.. Had a great time

The order met my expectations.

Whenever you ask for directions in Honduras, this is what you'll be told: "alli no mas", just a little further down the road. Take this book with you instead.Christopher Humphrey's handbook gives you the "why", along with the "where" and the "how much". Conscientious travelers know that there's more to a place than cheap, clean hotels, or cheap, reliable restaurants. Traveling involves knowing what makes a place special, what to look for which is unique and different, and what is it about a place that guarantees it a place in our memories. This book provides the answers.I lived and worked in Honduras for two years in the 70's, and I return often. This is the book I take with me. The contributors have an excellent understanding of Honduran history and culture, and this book is a very good resource for understanding a beautiful and little-known country. So, if you go to Honduras, ride the campo busses, drink a couple of Salva Vidas, enjoy a fine cigar or two, and don't miss eating that fabulous North Coast sopa de mariscos. And don't leave home without this guidebook.Que les vayan muy bien!

I'm not sure there even is another country-specific guidebook for Honduras, but if you're going to be there for even a few days this is the one to get! I've used a lot of different guidebook series in many parts of the world, and I can confidently say that the country-specific Moon Handbooks for Central America are far and away the best guidebooks I've ever used. They're extremely complete in every way--both in the practical and the historical--and they include "hidden gems" not mentioned in other guidebooks. That's because these guidebooks are written by people who've lived in the countries they're writing about, and clearly care about these countries. It really shows through in the quality of the books. You might want to read the reviews of the Moon Handbook for Nicaragua to get a sense of the quality of Moon's Honduras handbook--they're similar in many ways.

I'm not sure if the other reviewers have a different outlook on travel, but I found this book to be completely useless. The writer couches critiques without telling you explicitly where to go and where to avoid. I found the book extremely frustrating. For example, one seedy place that we had planned on staying was truly miserable - the book describes it as "your best option" in this part of honduras... In my mind a guide should do just that - guide you to the good and help you avoid the bad. This book just fails to give you the straight facts.

…time, gender, whatever barrier is in the way, at least for one of the main leads in the story initially then eventually both. The story focuses on Izumi Sena, an otaku fan of anime/manga [especially magical girls genre] aspiring to be a manga artist [despite a lack of skill] born into a celebrity family, and Ryoma, a one-time past co-actor Izumi meets when they were young for a commercial turned into an A-list actor, and the trials and tribulations they must go through keeps pulling them closer and closer together. The first volume focuses mostly on introducing the main two leads and how they met initially in the past, Izumi’s family background and their dynamics, Izumi’s aspirations and obsessions and Ryoma coming to terms and accepting his feelings for Izumi despite knowing he’s boy after thinking for so long Izumi was a girl. The overall tone of the story though is very light, cute, silly and fun, so not overly serious. Both lead characters are likeable and cute and the author does a great job in presenting the characters and showing how they became that way. Izumi will initially come off as very spoiled and childish but as the manga progresses you find out it’s due to how he was raised and sheltered [specially by his older brother Shogo and Rei, a manager to the family agency]. Izumi for the most part is somewhat of a reflection of how youth idealizes careers, goals and future. Ryoma on the other hand is a little more grounded then Izumi, at least in regards to the idea of working hard towards feasible goals. The art is great. I find Eiki art to be somewhat distinct compared to other yaoi artist in regards to the character designs [especially how she draws the faces]. In this volume there’s sexual activity, however, it’s used in a way to develop the storyline, not just for the sake of throwing it in.If you enjoyed Junjou Romantica or Sekaiichi Hatsukoi, I highly recommend picking up Love Stage. It’s a charming yaoi love comedy and endearing characters and nice art.

Typical manga: Assertive man and submissive man. Love and struggle from partners.Good parts: Super cute, plot is good and interesting, main characters compliment each other, and one is attractive.Bad part: The submissive guy is TOO feminine. They wrote his parts as if he was a girl 87% (made this number up) of the time and he's drawn VERY girly. It's kind of part of the plot, but still. Good yaoi manga.

Gets my daughter to read im good!! Lol she loves these stories

I decided to indulge and purchase volume one of the Love Stage series. After seeing the anime I had to see what differences or enahancments the manga had to offer. I was not dissapointed. The cover in itself is bright and eye catching. The artwork inside is breathtaking and very reminiscent of the anime art style. This volume gives a nice intro into the series and definitely left me wanting to read more. As an avid reader of yaoi manga I definitely recommend this series for newbies and veterans alike.

I've loved this manga since I could only get it in fan translations. I'm so happy to see it released on Amazon kindle. I look forward to more being released!

Great story with lovable characters. Izumi is adorable as hell and I can't blame Ryouma for falling for that cutie. Can't wait to see how things will work out for them.

Poor kids, they have such a hard time of it since they really don't start out gay. Absolutely hilarious. I love this series.

I love reading Love Stage!! It's such an interesting read with a few good sex scenes later on in the volumes. I was so excited to find out you can buy the book in English. I already bought volume 1 volume 2, and volume 3!!!
